THE ISSUES

Oh, I've got issues.

LISTENING TO YOU

I want to hear your concerns, and bring them to the Community Council.  As a director, a writer, an actor and an American Sign Language interpreter, my expertise is in communication.  While the Council has done tremendous work over the years, I have never been personally approached and asked to give feedback about living in Mar Vista to the Council.  As Director of Zone 6, I will work to contact each and every stakeholder in the zone during my term.

A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ZONE

As the parent of two young children, I want to ensure that Zone 6 is a safe, clean, and inviting place in which children can live, play, and learn.  This will be an ongoing concern of my time on the council, and reaches into so many areas of concern.  I want to see speed bumps and stop signs to slow down traffic.  I want to see cleaner and better-lit alleyways.  I'd like to understand the status of the empty lots, to see if there is a cleaner and safer way to use the space.  And as the victim of a recent theft, I would like to work closely with law enforcement to ensure that the residents of Zone 6 feel secure both on the streets and in their homes.

COMMITTEE WORK

As a member of the board of the Mar Vista Community Council, I will look to work with the Outreach Committee, hoping to have a specific focus on issues involving the homeless community in our area.  I'm also interested in getting involved with the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Safety and Security Committee.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

  • Supporting Urban Agriculture Incentive Zones
  • Limiting the noise and air pollution from Santa Monica Airport
  • Solving parking issues for local businesses
  • Encouraging the installation of more graywater systems, in accordance with Councilman Mike Bonin's proposal
